Do you know the difference between Coaching and Training? Mark Beach tells all.

Coaching has been used as a development tool since the 1980s, but it is only now that organisations are beginning to understand the huge potential it can have when developing leaders. Profoundly different from consulting, mentoring, advice, therapy, or counselling is an enormously powerful tool because it looks forward rather than dwelling in the past. The coaching process can be used to develop a person’s ‘softer skills’ such as awareness, empathy and emotional intelligence and as a result, can be used to change a team or organisation’s culture. A good coach will both challenge and support their client, unlocking a person’s potential in order to maximise their performance. In John Whitmore’s words, “it helps people to learn rather than teaching them”.

Become a better you.

Coaching addresses specific personal projects by examining what is going on in the ‘here and now’. It is the process of helping people to develop their capacity and ability to think about things (such as problems, people, relationships, customers, products, services, or the future) in new and creative ways so that they can realise what they really want to accomplish. It helps people to get un-stuck; many leaders, executives and managers ‘know’ intuitively what they need to do to move forward, but few of them follow through because they're stuck in some way. Coaching helps people focus on the things that are contributing to their being stuck, and then helps them move beyond the problem, achieving clarity, understanding and better self-awareness.
